Our hosting provider and technology partner, Rackspace, has successfully completed a 1-year plan that involved migrating all their hosting equipment (including our current webserver) to a brand new data centre located just off the M25 motorway that surrounds London.
LON3, or London 3 as it is designated by its owners, telecommunications giant COLT, boasts a massive 8,600 square metres of usable space, the company's biggest in Europe after construction commenced back in May 2007, with the initial section of the building now open for use.
At the recent Data Centre Dynamics awards, COLT's newest UK data centre was the only third-party to be nominated for the 'Best Mega Data Centre' category that recognises excellence in both facility design and operation.
LON3 has been strategically placed just off London's M25 motorway to provide low latency connectivity to its primary business customers situated in the City of London, but also exudes geographic diversity. The centre itself has access to a 25MV power supply from the National Grid which is being built in phases as soon as the latest technology is deployed - this also having the advantage that individual halls can be customised to specific customer requirements as and when it is needed.
Lastly, as part of the global effort to reduce carbon emissions, LON3 sports a fully outside air-ventilation system that provides cooling to individual areas of the building entirely from the outside air as an energy saving mechanism, replacing the conventional centralised air-conditioning that its predecessors have.
