Practical Maths
Getting the branding right for Practical Maths was a crucial element.
Practical Maths needed to appeal not only to modern children and teenagers,
but also to their parents. We decided to create a family of cartoon characters,
whose style pupils could identify with. The characters would be used on the site
to guide children around. Our design team conceived and drew the characters from
scratch and the brand identity and the look and feel of the website were created
around them.

Video Integration
The maths lessons themselves are all provided in a simple video format. Each
video varies in content and duration and has been designed to fit into the standard
school syllabus. Magnetize have created the site around these videos, incorporating
a user-friendly lesson browser facility.
Secure Login and Payment Facilities
Each video tutorial on the Practical Maths site has a different price, based on its
duration. For ease of use, Magnetize developed an integrated login and payment system
for lessons, giving both students and parents flexibility and peace of mind. Each user
can create their own personal account on the site that is accessed by a two-level password
structure. The parent’s password allows them to top-up the student’s account with credits,
using a credit or debit card, which the student can then use to purchase lessons. The
student login allows the pupil to choose which lessons they wish to purchase with their
credits and to view the videos they have bought.
Secure payment facilities have been integrated, using Optimal Payments’ online payment
facility. This integrates smoothly with the site and allows parents, if they so wish, to
store their card details securely on the site for future use.
Forum
Practical Maths wanted to incorporate a social element to its learning and for this purpose
Magnetize introduced a forum to the site. The forum allows pupils to discuss learning with
others and to get direct help from the forum’s administrator on specific problems.
